Sorry about that… I was trying to do some database maintenance on our backup server, and accidentally kicked it off on our main server instead. It should be up and back to normal now.

Sorry, guys. When our consultant rebuilt our search indices, they were so big that they outstripped the designated directory space for them. We’re rejiggering the file structure to support the size, but since we’re coordinating across 3 parties and two countries, it didn’t get completed overnight. They’re working on it now, and hopefully it will be back very quickly.

New server upgrade, new features, on the way

We’re in the midst of unplanned maintenance and server upgrade. The server was taken down when it was causing problems on a shared server, so we’re moving over to a dedicated server ASAP. It’s taking a bit longer than planned, because our database is 1.6 gigs. (Yeah, yeah, I know, it’d fit on your iPod many times over, but it’s still a heck of a lot of data for a forum.)

As a bonus, we were already in the middle of planned feature upgrades when this came up, so we’ll come back to a few new features (bookmarking favorite threads, so you won’t need to “post for updates”) and a few long lamented features (ignore user). Those were scheduled to be in by tonight, but with the server migration, it may take a few days longer.

tech issues for new host

I just got in, haven’t had time to investigate, but it’s likely b/c I turned the performance hog search back on. I’ve got a consultant lined up for as soon as we’re otherwise stable, and one task will be optimizing the search.

6/19/07 odd downtime

It looks like both the site and the admin functionality with our host is down temporarily. I’ll see if I can figure out what’s going on.

ETA: currently caller #3 on tech support– hopefully this will just be a reboot issue.

Exceeded CPU quota

I’ve been seeing this more than usual today, and wanted to remind users (apropos of my post about this in Tech Support) that it’s not really necessary to report this.

The error seems to be caused by a query that sucks up too much of the CPU power, and once it’s done running, the site rights itself.

Uh-oh, looks like we’re getting this one again. No doubt anise has already noticed, but I’ll drop her an email just in case.
ETA: Make that 1/18, too.

1/5/07 outage (FIXED)

I’m on the phone with tech support, so hopefully we’ll be back up soon.

UPDATE: Bah, it looks like we had a hardware failure, and they had to call admins in from home to fix the box. We’ll be down for another hour. I’ll check back at 10PM EST, and give ‘em a call if they’re not up yet. Sorry about this. (But the bright side of a hosted solution: I’m not crawling under my desk with a screwdriver right now.)

UPDATE AGAIN: looks like we’re up after 5 minutes instead of an hour, so whee.  Sorry for the disruption.
